Hair Care for transitional weather

Proper hair and scalp maintenance is CRUCIAL during the colder months, but what about transitional weather? Spring is finally upon us and we couldn’t be happier, but that doesn’t mean we can forego all those winter hair rituals completely. Here are my secrets to having healthy, strong, shiny locks as the weather grows warm:

First, I can’t stress enough how important it is to stay hydrated! Drinking at least 8 glasses of water everyday can help hair grow properly, and prevent it from being brittle or dry, especially as the temperature starts to rise.

Once every couple of weeks or so, I concoct a special herbal hair bath before I shower comprised mostly of Nettles and Chamomile (my mom rinsed my hair with these herbs when I was a kid and it did wonders for my then fine, fragile hair!). Nettles are extraordinarily rich in iron and are excellent for combating hair loss/promoting hair regrowth while also balancing the sebum production, important for those who suffer from dandruff or a dry, itchy scalp. Chamomile is known for its soothing properties and aids with an itchy scalp as well, while also brightening and giving life to natural hair colors.

First, I bring some water to a boil and pour it over a handful of Nettles and Chamomile. Occasionally I add dried Lavender, Rose Petals, or Rosemary; Lavender aids with hair loss, Rose Petals are conditioning, and Rosemary stimulates hair growth (plus they all smell divine!). Most of these herbs are also infused in our Malaya Organic Repair & Style Hair Oil . After my shower (avoid using super hot water, it’s very drying!), I use this homemade botanical brew once it cools as a post-washing hair rinse - it is nourishing and fortifying, and makes hair shiny and baby soft. It also brings balance to the scalp by relieving both itchiness/dryness and buildup.

Using the right product is also important when it comes to general hair care, but is especially necessary in colder or transitional weather because cooler or rapidly changing temperatures can deliver quite a shock to the body. Our Malaya Organics Repair & Style Hair Oil doubles as both a hair/scalp treatment and as a versatile styling product. Brimming with hair loving organic oils such as Apricot Kernel, Avocado, Argan, Raw Virgin Coconut Oil, Olive and Hemp Oils, it feeds the hair and makes it feel super soft!

Our hair oil is also suitable for fine hair or hair that tends to be greasy. When used as a treatment some of the ingredients in our formula including - Borage Oil, Rosemary and Lavender - can help prevent hair from being too oily by creating balance in the sebum production.

The Essential Oil blend in our Repair & Style Hair Oil is also a punch of nourishment for your hair - Clary Sage and Sandalwood help prevent falling, while Geranium, Jasmine and Bulgarian Rose Oils reduce dryness and smell incredible!

To treat the hair - apply a generous amount of oil onto the scalp, roots, and entire hair shaft - usually I leave it in for at least a few hours before washing my hair, but sometimes I even keep it overnight. The oil will deep condition the hair, softening and replenishing it with vital nutrients. It also is great for reviving and brightening damaged, color treated strands. Using our formula as a treatment regularly can help locks grow healthier, thicker and stronger.

To style - I rub a few drops of our Repair & Style Hair Oil between my palms and work it into either wet or dry ends to remedy frizz. Our hair oil is a hair texturizer as well as an amazing alternative to conventional silicone based hair serums. It can actually give hair hold while nourishing, without making the hair oily or weighing it down. The perfect hair potion!
